“Hearing aids can help improve the lives of people with different causes of hearing loss. Hearing loss occurs as a natural consequence of aging or can be caused by exposure to loud noises that damage the delicate structures of the ear. The main challenge posed by hearing loss is the interruption in normal communication abilities, which affects both mental and physical health. Untreated hearing loss is associated with:
- Decreased social engagement
- Loneliness, isolation, and depression
- Reduced ability to learn new tasks
- Cognitive decline and memory loss
- Overall declines in health – both physical and psychological”
Here’s what Dr. Lundstrom had to say on the topic of who benefits most from hearing aids?
“Hearing aids are really for anyone who finds themselves missing out on conversations or who have an ear-related issue. OTC hearing aids can be a great starter hearing aid for those who are tech-savvy and can manage the devices on their own.”
